Javelina Hunting

Javelina hunting on El Papalote Ranch is a fun activity that typically involves stalking in at close range and is perfect for both rifle and archery hunters alike. The Javelina, also known as the Collared Peccary is considered a native species to Texas and can also be found in several of the surrounding states like New Mexico and Arizona and can be found throughout most of Central and South America as well. They are a social animal and typically travel in groups with some of the groups on the ranch consisting of over 20 animals (in the wild they can be well over 50!). Although Javelina are also known as a “skunk pig” because of a pungent gland on their backs, the meat can be tasty when properly prepared. The trophy of the Javelina is the skull and is also how it is scored for trophy size. The teeth of a Javelina are very sharp and are self-sharpening too! When hunting, sometimes our guides are even able to call them in!

Although we do not offer single booked hunts on a Javelina, there are opportunities to add them on to your other trophy hunts. Additionally, we do cater to groups that want to bring 4 or more guests for a Javelina Derby. Contact the ranch for details and availability and we can craft your very own Javelina hunting experience.
